Getting to
Froyle Park.

The house was built around 1620 by Sir John Jephson on the site of an earlier medieval building, whose fabric survives in the basement. It was a military hospital in the First World War, then part of a college from 1949 until around 2011, and was converted back to a country manor and opened as a wedding venue in 2011. It is Grade II* listed, with the Grade I listed Church of St Mary adjoining the estate.

The approach

Take the Upper Froyle turning off the A31, keep right of the Hen and Chicken, then up Ryebridge Lane and bear right at the top. The entrance is roughly 300 yards on, opposite Yarnhams Lane, just before the church. From the opposite carriageway there is no turn: you continue to the Alton roundabout and come back.

Planning the guest transport

Three hundred guests, 66 beds and one narrow uphill lane is a combination that does not survive being improvised. We stage departures through the last part of the evening so cars are not meeting each other on Ryebridge Lane, and we split runs between Farnham, Alton and the airports according to where people are actually going.

What is the correct way in to Froyle Park?

From the A31 take the Upper Froyle turning, keep right of the Hen and Chicken pub, follow Ryebridge Lane up the hill and bear right at the top. The entrance is about 300 yards further on the right, opposite Yarnhams Lane and just before the church.

What if we are coming from the other direction?

You cannot turn across the dual carriageway. Drivers on the opposite side have to continue to the Alton roundabout and come back, which is why a driver who knows the venue saves real time on a tight schedule.

How many guests will need transport at the end?

Most of them. The estate sleeps up to 66 across its apartments and the licence runs to 300 guests, so the late-night movement is large and it all goes down one narrow uphill lane.

Which station is nearest to Froyle Park?

Alton at about 3.6 miles, and it has a taxi rank outside, which the venue points out itself. Bentley is closer to the village but has a much sparser service, and there is no meaningful bus to Upper Froyle.
