The venue was Blacknest Golf and Country Club from 1994 until it was bought and relaunched, with the golf course redesigned down to twelve holes and padel, pickleball and a putting course added alongside cabins, pods, a restaurant and two bars. Weddings run through the Woodlands tipi and the pavilion lawn rather than a formal ballroom.

The approach

The site sits in open parkland well back from Frith End Road, a rural lane off the Bentley to Bordon road. It is unlit and has no pavement, so the last stretch is not somewhere to be walking or waiting after dark. The turning is easy to miss on a first visit, which is the main reason to have a driver who has been before.

Planning the guest transport

Two things shape the night here. The reception is under canvas rather than in a lit building, so a named meeting point saves a lot of phone calls, and the on-site beds cover only about thirty people. Give us the guest count and the finish time and we will stage the cars instead of sending them all at midnight.

What couples and planners usually ask.

Is this still Blacknest Golf and Country Club?

Not under that name. The site was bought by new owners, the eighteen-hole course was redesigned down to twelve holes and the venue relaunched as Mad Swans in the South Downs. It is the same place on Frith End Road, and the phone number did not change.

Where should guests be collected from?

Agree a named point before the day. The ceremony and reception are largely outdoors, under the Woodlands tipi and on the pavilion lawn, so there is no single lit entrance to head for at midnight.

How many guests will need transport?

Most of them. The cabins and glamping pods sleep around thirty, so on a full wedding the large majority are travelling back to Farnham, Alton or Bentley at the end of the night.

How far is it from Farnham?

About seven miles, so fifteen to twenty minutes, out along the A31 to Bentley and then south through Binsted and Frith End. There is no practical public transport at that hour.
