Getting to
Farnham Castle.

The castle was founded in 1138 by Henry of Blois. The wedding and events side occupies the Bishop's Palace range, which is Grade I listed, while the separate Norman motte keep is in state guardianship. Ceremonies run in the Lantern Hall and the Winchester Suite, with two chapels and about five acres of grounds looking down over the town.

The approach

Up Castle Street, a wide Georgian street that narrows and climbs towards the top, then round to the entrance on Castle Hill. Parking on site is free for wedding and event guests when space allows. Because the approach is residential, we work to an agreed pickup point at the entrance rather than waiting along the street.

Planning the guest transport

This venue is unusual for us in that almost nobody is going far. With 350 possible guests and beds for about 75, the late evening is a run of short hops into Farnham hotels, pubs and homes, which two or three cars can cycle through quickly. The following morning it turns into station work instead.

Where do taxis collect from at Farnham Castle?

At the castle entrance on Castle Hill, as a set point, rather than pulling in on Castle Street below. The castle sits above a residential street, so a fixed pickup spot keeps 350 guests from spilling onto it at the end of the night.

How far is the castle from the station?

About a mile, and roughly half a mile uphill from the town centre. Farnham station has direct trains to London Waterloo in around 55 minutes, which makes the morning-after runs a steady part of the booking.

How many guests usually need transport?

A lot, but not far. The castle can seat 265 and hold 350 standing, with about 75 sleeping on site, so the pattern is high-volume short hops into Farnham rather than long rural returns.

Can we visit the castle keep?

Not at present. The Norman keep is closed on English Heritage's instructions while masonry repairs are awaited. The wedding venue in the Bishop's Palace range is trading normally.
