Getting to
the Hog's Back Hotel.

The building began as Poyle Hill House, a private home built for Henry Chester, and was bought by a local brewery in 1935, converted and reopened as a hotel under the Hog's Back name in 1936. It has a leisure club and spa with an indoor pool, sauna, gym and treatment rooms, and it is run by Surya Hotels rather than a national chain.

The approach

The hotel sits directly off the A31 Hog's Back near Seale, with its own forecourt and ample free parking. The one thing to get right is which carriageway you are on: turnings along the ridge are fast and few, so an approach from the wrong direction means carrying on to the next junction.

What guests usually need

This is a group hotel. Conferences of up to 180, weddings and leisure breaks all produce movements that cluster rather than trickle, and with Heathrow about eighteen miles away the morning after an event is usually a run of early departures.
