Getting to
the Bush Hotel.

The Bush is a former coaching inn, listed since 1950, with the Oak Lounge in its oldest part and a Georgian garden restaurant used for breakfast. Thackeray mentions the inn in The Virginians and Cromwell is traditionally said to have stayed in 1648. The practical point for a driver is simpler: it is in the middle of a one-way town centre.

The approach

The practical route in is from the A31 at the Shepherd and Flock roundabout, then following town-centre signs onto the one-way system. The Borough itself is not pedestrianised, but it is a working carriageway with traffic signals at the junction and nowhere to wait, so the rear and garden car park side is where we set down.

What drivers watch for

Farnham town centre has been under reconstruction since early 2025, with work due to run into late 2026 and diversions sending northbound traffic via South Street, the A31 and Hale Road. For an early flight we add time for that rather than discover it at six in the morning.

Not comfortably. The Borough is a live carriageway on Farnham's one-way system with no stopping and widened pavements, so we normally set down and collect at the rear car park side instead. Tell reception you have a car coming and they will point you the right way.

It is about half a mile, which the hotel puts at a ten to fifteen minute walk. By car it is usually three to six minutes, though the town-centre one-way system can stretch that at busy times.
